Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Wayne County: Significant Snowfall and Hazardous Travel Expected
Prepare for challenging winter conditions this weekend as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, in effect from Friday morning through Monday evening.
According to the advisory, the region will experience two phases of winter weather.
Current Snowfall and Additional Accumulation
The first Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 1 p.m. Friday. An additional 1 to 2 inches of snow is expected during this period, contributing to already accumulating snow across the county.
Lake Effect Snow Advisory
The second advisory begins at 4 p.m. Friday and will remain active until 7 p.m. Monday. Lake effect snow is expected to bring 4 to 8 inches of accumulation in areas where the snowfall is most persistent. The northeastern portion of Wayne County is likely to see the heaviest snow during this time.
Travel Hazards and Safety Precautions
The NWS warns that travel could become dangerous, particularly during the Monday morning and evening commutes. Roads, bridges, and overpasses may become slick and hazardous due to the rapid accumulation of snow.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution and be prepared for rapidly changing weather and visibility. In areas affected by lake effect snow, conditions can vary greatly within just a few miles—from heavy snowfall and low visibility to clear skies.
Stay updated on weather alerts and road conditions, and allow extra time for travel during the advisory period.
