Wayne County Seeking Senior Engineering Technician
The Wayne County Highway Department is seeking candidates for the position of Senior Engineering Technician. The role is being filled on a provisional basis, pending a Civil Service exam. Applications are being accepted until Monday, March 31, 2025, at 5 p.m., or until the position is filled.
Position Details and Benefits
The Senior Engineering Technician will assist in civil engineering work, providing support to engineers through construction project inspections, field surveys, data analysis, and contract reviews. Responsibilities include using computer-aided design drafting (CADD) programs, conducting engineering calculations, and ensuring compliance with construction specifications.
The position offers a starting salary of $25.03 per hour ($52,262 annually) in 2025, along with a comprehensive benefits package. Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet at least one of the following qualifications:
An associate degree in engineering science or civil engineering technology, plus one year of experience in civil engineering work.
A high school diploma or equivalent, plus three years of experience in civil engineering work.
A combination of education and experience equivalent to the above qualifications.
Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in engineering may substitute their education for experience on a year-for-year basis.
A valid New York State Class D driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment. Degrees obtained from institutions outside the U.S. must be evaluated for equivalency.
Responsibilities and Required Skills
The role involves a variety of tasks, including:
Preparing detailed contract plans and layouts using drafting techniques.
Conducting field tests and visually inspecting projects for compliance.
Measuring and computing material quantities for contract payments.
Assisting in traffic control planning and evaluating traffic data.
Using CADD programs and other computer software for engineering tasks.
Applicants should have strong mathematical skills, proficiency in CADD drafting and surveying equipment, familiarity with construction materials and standards, and the ability to interpret technical documents. Attention to detail, dependability, and good judgment are also essential qualities.
