Wayne County Seeking Automotive Mechanic for Highway Department

The Wayne County Highway Department is currently accepting applications for an Automotive Mechanic position, offering a salary of $52,262 per year ($25.03 per hour) along with a range of benefits.
The position is open to candidates who have at least two years of full-time experience as a skilled automotive mechanic or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Applicants with a vocational or technical training certificate in automotive or heavy equipment repair may substitute one year of the required experience.
Additional qualifications include possession of a valid New York State Operator’s License at the time of appointment, with certain positions requiring a Class B License or permit within 12 months of hire. Candidates may also be required to obtain a New York State Inspector’s License within six months of appointment.
The role involves overhauling and repairing a variety of vehicles and heavy-duty equipment, including trucks, buses, and road maintenance machinery. Responsibilities include repairing or replacing engines, transmissions, brakes, and other mechanical components, as well as performing routine maintenance and occasional welding work. The position may also require operating motorized equipment and, in some cases, driving school bus routes.
