Wayne County Planning Board Reviews Solar Projects, Comprehensive Plan Updates, and Other Development Proposals
The Wayne County Planning Board convened on January 22, 2025, to review multiple land use proposals, including solar energy projects, a telecommunications tower, and a new RV park. The meeting, held in person at the Planning Department Conference Room in Lyons, covered referral actions from municipalities across the county.
Among the key items on the agenda were several special permit applications related to renewable energy development. Arcadia PV LLC and Ontario PV LLC both sought approval for solar projects— a 4.171-megawatt solar array in the Town of Arcadia and a 5-megawatt facility in Ontario. The board also reviewed a request from the Town of Palmyra regarding the adoption of a comprehensive plan update.
In addition to energy-related projects, the board considered a special permit request from Leone RV to establish an RV park at 8017 Margaretta Road in Sodus Point. Another application, from the Town of Rose, sought approval for the construction of a 150-foot wireless telecommunications tower on Burley Road, which would include a four-foot lightning rod.
Other development proposals included a final site plan review for an eight-lot, seven-home subdivision on Mykola Road in Walworth.
Under General Municipal Law Section 239, the county planning board reviews projects for their potential impact on land use compatibility, traffic, drainage, and community character, among other factors. The board’s recommendations will be forwarded to local municipalities, which hold the authority to grant final approvals.
The meeting was held in person with no virtual attendance option. Attendees were required to sign in upon entry.
