Major Kevin P. Sucher began his career with the New York State Police in May 1999 as a Trooper and has since held a series of leadership and specialized roles. In 2005, he transferred to Troop E’s Forensic Identification Unit (FIU) and was promoted to Investigator within the unit the following year. By 2007, he achieved the rank of Sergeant, continuing his work in FIU. In 2014, he was appointed Senior Investigator, overseeing both the FIU and the Collision Reconstruction Unit. Sucher’s career has encompassed a variety of roles, from forensic science and narcotics enforcement to supervising criminal investigations and highway patrol operations. His experience in both uniformed and investigative positions is expected to benefit Troop E’s operations.
Major Sucher is a lifelong resident of Wayne County, living in Ontario with his wife, Terri, and their children. He graduated from Wayne Central High School in 1987 and earned a degree from Monroe Community College.
His career began in the Troop E garage in 1990, where he worked as a Maintenance Assistant Mechanic setting up police vehicles and handling mechanical services. This experience provided him with a broad understanding of the agency’s operations.
Before joining the State Police, Sucher served as a Police Officer with the Geneva Police Department. His father, Paul Sucher, was a retired New York State Police Sergeant and former Town Justice in Ontario, who passed away in 2021.
