Wayne County Announces Deputy Sheriff and Police Officer Exam for 2025
Application Deadline Set for April 11; Exam Scheduled for May 3
The Wayne County Civil Service and Human Resource Office is accepting applications for the Deputy Sheriff and Police Officer civil service exam, which will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 8 a.m. The deadline to submit completed applications is Friday, April 11, 2025, by 5 p.m. A non-refundable filing fee of $20 must accompany all applications.
The eligible list generated from this examination will be used to fill vacancies within the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, as well as police departments in villages and towns under Wayne County's civil service jurisdiction.
Residency Requirements and Qualifications
Applicants must be residents of New York State at the time of the exam. Candidates seeking positions as Deputy Sheriffs must reside in Wayne County at the time of appointment and throughout their employment, in accordance with state law.
Educational qualifications require candidates to be high school graduates or possess an equivalency diploma. Those without these qualifications may take the exam but will not be eligible for appointment until they obtain a diploma or equivalent certification.

Candidates who have also applied for multiple civil service exams at the state or local level must coordinate their testing schedules to avoid conflicts. Lateral candidates with more than three years of experience will start at the top pay rate. Those with fewer than three years of experience will have their salary determined by the Macedon Police Chief and Town Board.
