A Walworth man and his wife were arrested on Sunday afternoon following a traffic stop related to an investigation into a possible intoxicated driver, according to authorities.
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reported that Matthew J. Johnson, 59, was pulled over on State Route 21 near State Route 96 around 4:09 p.m. after allegedly violating multiple traffic laws. Officials stated that Johnson was seen making an unsafe passing maneuver, nearly causing a head-on collision with a marked police vehicle.
During the roadside investigation, deputies determined that Johnson was intoxicated and took him into custody on charges of driving while intoxicated and obstructing governmental administration. Authorities said he resisted arrest and failed to comply with lawful orders during the stop.
His wife, Elaine R. Cramer, 51, was also arrested at the scene although authorities were not clear on what charges she is facing. She was issued an appearance ticket and released to a third party, while Johnson was transported to the Ontario County Jail.
Both Johnson and Cramer are scheduled to appear in Manchester Town Court at a later date.
