Village of Newark Seeks Heavy Equipment Operator for Public Works Projects
Applicants must have at least one year of experience and a valid New York State Class B driver’s license with an air brake endorsement.
The Village of Newark is currently accepting applications for the position of Heavy Equipment Operator, a role critical to supporting the village’s infrastructure maintenance and public works projects.
This position involves the operation of specialized heavy automotive equipment used in highway repair, construction, and maintenance. Duties include operating bulldozers, power graders, backhoes, hydrocranes, power shovels, and heavy snow plows. The operator may also be responsible for tasks related to water distribution system maintenance, cemetery burials, and tree pruning using chainsaws, chippers, and aerial bucket trucks.
Candidates should possess strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform minor repairs and routine maintenance on equipment. The role also requires manual labor, such as cleaning culverts, shoveling snow, and general road maintenance. A Grade D-Distribution System Water System Operator certification is considered a plus.
Applicants must have at least one year of experience operating specialized or heavy motor equipment or two years operating any type of automotive equipment. A valid New York State Class B driver’s license with an air brake endorsement is required at the time of application and must be maintained throughout employment.
While this is not a civil service position, the Village of Newark requires applicants to submit a standardized employment application, which can be obtained at the Village Hall, 100 East Miller Street, 3rd Floor, Newark, NY, or downloaded from the Wayne County website here.
Completed applications should be submitted to Lynette Morrison, Clerk/Treasurer, at Village Hall or via email at lmorrison@villageofnewark.com.
