A devastating plane crash in Northeast Philadelphia has left multiple people dead after a fiery explosion sent shockwaves through the area Friday evening. Witnesses described a horrifying scene as the crash site became engulfed in flames, with gruesome footage capturing a victim burning alive while walking outside of a strip mall.
A Learjet 55 had departed from Northeast Philadelphia Airport en route to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri. It is reported that 6 people were on board when the aircraft crashed. The plane was reportedly on a medical transport mission.
Eyewitnesses described the moment of impact as catastrophic. A massive explosion followed the crash, igniting several nearby buildings and vehicles. Footage from the scene shows burning wreckage stretching across city blocks, with fire consuming structures near a strip mall.
"Then I saw people running, but they were already on fire. It was the most horrific thing I’ve ever seen,” said a witness recording a video, still shaken.
The force of the explosion sent debris flying in all directions, damaging businesses, homes, and vehicles for blocks. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the intensity of the flames made immediate rescue efforts extremely difficult.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation into the crash. Due to the severity of the incident, the FAA issued an immediate ground stop at Northeast Philadelphia Airport, halting all air traffic.
Philadelphia Fire Department officials urged residents to avoid the area as crews worked to contain the fires and assess the widespread destruction.
Authorities have not yet released an official count of casualties, but multiple fatalities are confirmed. The number of injured victims and the full extent of the destruction are still being assessed.
This remains a developing story. Updates will follow as more details emerge.
