Two Steuben County Residents Charged With Possessing Meth and Crack in Livingston County
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the charges did not meet the criteria for arraignment or bail under New York State’s Justice Reform Act.
Two Steuben County residents were arrested on drug-related charges following a traffic stop on Interstate 390 in the Town of Geneseo, according to the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.
The arrests stemmed from a February 7 traffic stop conducted by Investigator Shawn Whitford, who initiated the stop due to a violation of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. During the investigation, law enforcement suspected possible drug-related activity and proceeded with a further inquiry.
Authorities reported that the driver, identified as 40-year-old Sue Smith, and passenger, 35-year-old Richard Chiverton, were allegedly found in possession of crack cocaine and methamphetamine. Additionally, officials stated that Smith was found with fentanyl, which she reportedly attempted to conceal.
Chiverton was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor. Smith faces multiple charges, including two felony counts of tampering with physical evidence and two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.
Following their arrests, both individuals were taken to the Livingston County Jail for processing and were issued appearance tickets. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the charges did not meet the criteria for arraignment or bail under New York State’s Justice Reform Act.
