Two Juveniles Charged in Lewis County Burglary Spree Involving Firearms, Vehicle Theft
Two juveniles, ages 13 and 15, have been charged in connection with a series of burglaries that occurred over several days in mid-March in the Port Leyden and Lyons Falls areas of Lewis County.
The arrests followed a joint investigation by the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at SP Lowville and the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities say the incidents took place between March 17 and 19 and involved thefts from vehicles, storage units, and a residential property.
According to investigators, the juveniles allegedly entered multiple unlocked vehicles parked at residences during the late night and early morning hours, stealing various items. They also reportedly broke into several storage units at Shue Box Storage on State Route 12 in Port Leyden.
Among the stolen property were two handguns and a vehicle, which authorities say the teens took from a home in Port Leyden. The vehicle was later involved in a rollover crash on State Route 12 in Martinsburg. When troopers arrived at the scene, the teens had reportedly fled on foot.
Each juvenile faces multiple charges, including:
Three counts of grand larceny in the fourth degree (class E felony)
Seven counts of petit larceny (class A misdemeanor)
Two counts of burglary in the third degree (class D felony)
Two counts of criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree (class E felony)
One count of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree (class A misdemeanor)
The juveniles were issued appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear in family court.
