On February 28, 2025, New York State Police responded to reports of a shooting in the Town of Onondaga, where a teenage driver allegedly fired a gun at another vehicle.
According to police, the incident occurred at approximately 6:41 p.m. when a Ford Fusion carrying three passengers encountered a Subaru Crosstrek driven by a 17-year-old male, who was accompanied by his girlfriend. Authorities say the individuals involved had prior disputes.
While stopped at the intersection of West Roswell Avenue and Midland Avenue, the occupants of the Subaru Crosstrek allegedly began honking at the Ford Fusion. Shortly afterward, one of the Ford’s backseat passengers was dropped off, and the remaining two occupants continued along Orchard Avenue, where they noticed the Subaru parked in a driveway.
As the Ford Fusion passed by, the suspect allegedly exited his vehicle, prompting the driver to slow down and roll down a window. Police say the suspect then drew a handgun and fired a single shot into the front passenger-side door of the Ford.
The victims immediately fled the scene, with the suspect briefly following them before breaking off on Kennedy Road. They later drove to the State Police barracks in LaFayette to report the incident. No injuries were reported.
Following an investigation, the 17-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with:
Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree (Class D felony)
Criminal Possession of a Firearm (Class E felony)
Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class C felony)
He was arraigned by On-Call CAP Court Judge Schiano and remanded to Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Center on $100,000 cash bail or $250,000 bond.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.
