The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a Southport man following an investigation into an alleged home improvement fraud case.
Shane R. Adams, 25, was charged with grand larceny in the third degree, a class D felony, after authorities determined he had failed to complete contracted work despite receiving payment.
According to the Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a fraud complaint on August 21, 2024, at a residence in Southport. The homeowner reported signing a contract with S&W Exterior LLC for exterior home improvements. However, despite paying Adams $10,500 via personal check, the contracted work was not completed.
After an investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, officials found that four months had passed since the agreed-upon completion date, with no work being performed. Authorities issued a Lien Letter demanding Adams return the funds within 31 days, but the money was not repaid.
As a result, Adams was arrested and charged with grand larceny. He was arraigned in Southport Town Court, released on his own recognizance, and given a later court date.
