A Geneva man was critically injured following a single-vehicle crash on County Road 23 near Tileyard Road in Phelps on Sunday afternoon, February 2.
According to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the scene around 4 p.m. after receiving reports of a personal injury crash. Initial investigations revealed that 61-year-old Patrick Maher of Geneva was driving a 2003 Acura eastbound on County Road 23 when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole.
Emergency crews from Phelps Fire Department and Clifton Springs Fire Department worked to extricate Maher from the wreckage. He was transported by Phelps Ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where he remains in critical but stable condition, receiving treatment for serious injuries.
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Accident Reconstruction Unit was called to the scene to assist with the investigation. The road was closed for several hours as NYSEG crews worked to clear downed wires and replace the damaged utility pole.
Authorities noted that no other vehicles or individuals were involved in the incident. While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, deputies reported that snowy road conditions may have contributed to the accident.
