The watch covers 12 counties: Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Ontario, Orleans, Wayne, and Wyoming. Cities under the advisory include Rochester, Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Canandaigua, Newark, Batavia, and Geneseo.
A severe thunderstorm watch means conditions are favorable for the development of damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall. Residents are advised to stay alert to changing weather conditions and be prepared to seek shelter if severe storms develop.
