Seneca County Law Enforcement Participates in Statewide St. Patrick’s Day DWI Crackdown
Law enforcement agencies across Seneca County will take part in a statewide initiative to combat impaired driving as part of the STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign. The crackdown, which runs through Tuesday, March 18, 2025, aims to reduce alcohol-related incidents during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, a time historically associated with increased alcohol consumption and impaired driving incidents.
Seneca County Sheriff and STOP-DWI Coordinator Timothy J. Thompson, Jr. emphasized the importance of responsible decision-making.
“Be safe and make good decisions. If you are drinking alcohol, don’t drive. Have a plan and get home safely,” he said.
The initiative is part of a broader effort led by STOP-DWI NY and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, which coordinates similar enforcement campaigns throughout the year, including during Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, the holiday season, and Super Bowl weekend.
Authorities stress that public awareness and engagement efforts like these play a crucial role in preventing impaired driving and its consequences. Officials encourage residents to plan ahead by designating a sober driver, arranging for alternative transportation, or using resources like the “Have a Plan” mobile app, which provides options for safe travel.
