Safe Boating Course Offered in Penn Yan This April
The course, which is required for many boaters under state law, will be held at the Yates County Office Building auditorium on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Local residents interested in learning safe boating practices will have the opportunity to take part in an upcoming New York Safe Boating Course in April. The course, which is required for many boaters under state law, will be held at the Yates County Office Building auditorium on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The class, organized by Pamela Housel, is open to participants aged 10 and older. Those who successfully complete the eight-hour course will earn a New York State safe boating certificate. The course is designed to promote responsible and safe boating practices, covering topics such as required safety equipment, navigation rules, and boating-related activities.
Participants are advised to bring their own lunch, snacks, and drinks, as vending machines will not be available at the venue.
For boaters 18 years and older, a $10 fee is required to obtain the permanent boating safety certificate from New York State Parks. This fee is in addition to any course costs set by the instructor. There is no certificate fee for students under the age of 18, though course fees may still apply.
As of now, 17 out of 25 available seats remain open for registration. Those interested in attending are encouraged to register soon. Anyone who registers but later finds they are unable to attend is asked to cancel their reservation by 8 a.m. on Friday, April 25, to allow waitlisted individuals the opportunity to participate.
