Retail Horror: 84-Year-Old Macy’s Employee Pepper-Sprayed by Aggressive Thief at Eastview Mall
The 84-year-old store employee who was sprayed sustained injuries but declined medical treatment at the scene, police said.
A Rochester man has been arrested in connection with a robbery and assault that took place at Macy’s in Eastview Mall on the night of March 4, according to the New York State Police.
Authorities say troopers responded to the store at approximately 9:52 p.m. after receiving a report of a theft and assault. The suspect, later identified as 67-year-old Jack L. Miles, allegedly stole six winter jackets and used pepper spray on a female employee before fleeing the scene.
An investigation by State Police and the Ontario County Sheriff's Office led officers to a vehicle linked to the incident. The following day, March 5, law enforcement located the vehicle outside Macy’s and identified Miles inside. He was taken into custody without incident.
Miles has been charged with:
Robbery in the Second Degree (Class C Felony)
Assault in the Second Degree (Class D Felony)
Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree (Class E Felony)

Authorities continue to investigate the case in coordination with Macy’s Loss Prevention and Ontario County officials. Miles is currently being held without bail at the Ontario County Jail and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Victor Town Court on March 11.
