Police Find Stolen AR-15 During Ithaca Traffic Stop
The driver was identified as Mujahidden A. Bin-Yamin, 27, of Ithaca who was in possession of the stolen AR-15-style rifle in the vehicle, along with a loaded 30-round high-capacity magazine.
A routine traffic stop in the Town of Fayette on Monday night led to the arrest of an Ithaca man who was allegedly found driving with a suspended license and in possession of a stolen firearm, according to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say they stopped a vehicle on March 24 around 10:40 p.m. after observing violations of New York State traffic laws. The driver was identified as Mujahidden A. Bin-Yamin, 27, of Ithaca. During the stop, officers determined that Bin-Yamin’s driving privileges in New York had been suspended.
Further investigation reportedly uncovered a stolen AR-15-style rifle in the vehicle, along with a loaded 30-round high-capacity magazine.
Bin-Yamin faces several charges, including aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, and criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree. He also received multiple traffic citations.
