Pal-Mac Swimmer George Newsome Wins Section V Title in 500 Freestyle
Newsome became the first Pal-Mac swimmer in 16 years to qualify for the state tournament.
George Newsome, a standout member of the Palmyra-Macedon Varsity Boys Swim Team, has once again claimed a Section V championship. Newsome secured the title in the 500-yard freestyle with an impressive time of 4:46.86 at the Section V Championships on Friday, February 7.
This marks the second time Newsome has earned the Section V title in the 500 freestyle, having previously won the event in 2024.
The championship win is another highlight in an already successful season for Newsome. He qualified for the New York State Tournament in both the 200-yard freestyle—where he broke his own school record with a time of 1:46.48—and the 500 freestyle.
Throughout the season, Newsome has set multiple pool records, including at the Jim DeWitt Invitational meet in Newark last month. His accomplishments continue to cement his place as one of Pal-Mac’s top swimmers.
In 2024, Newsome became the first Pal-Mac swimmer in 16 years to qualify for the state tournament. He will compete again at the state level on Friday, March 7, at Ithaca College.
