A 31-year-old Owego man was taken into custody last week following a brief foot pursuit after authorities received an anonymous tip regarding his whereabouts.
According to the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested Nicholas R. Whitmarsh on February 21, 2025, on an active fugitive from justice warrant issued in Pennsylvania. Deputies responded to a location in the Town of Barton after receiving information about Whitmarsh’s possible location.
Upon arrival, officers were informed that Whitmarsh had left the property on foot. When spotted, he reportedly fled from law enforcement but was eventually apprehended along Interstate 86 in Barton.
In addition to the fugitive warrant, Whitmarsh faces charges of resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration. He was arraigned the same day in Centralized Arraignment Part (CAP) court and subsequently remanded to the Tioga County Jail.
The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from the New York State Police and the Waverly Police Department. Authorities acknowledged the cooperation of community members in locating Whitmarsh.
