Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and not to engage with these scammers. The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, along with local and state courts, does not request or demand payment over the phone, nor do they accept payments through digital platforms like Apple Pay or PayPal.
Residents who receive such calls are advised not to provide personal information or make any payments. Instead, they should immediately hang up and verify any concerns by contacting the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office directly at 585-394-4560.
