Ontario County Inmate Allegedly Violates Protection Order with 358 Jail Calls
Authorities allege that between December 2024 and February 2025, Cheeks made hundreds of phone calls from jail to an individual who was the protected party of an active order of protection.
A 26-year-old man was arrested and charged with multiple counts of criminal contempt for allegedly violating an order of protection while incarcerated.
Laron J. Cheeks, who is currently housed at the Ontario County Jail, was charged with 358 counts of second-degree criminal contempt. Authorities allege that between December 2024 and February 2025, Cheeks made hundreds of phone calls from jail to an individual who was the protected party of an active order of protection.
An investigation identified 358 separate calls that were in violation of the order, leading to Cheeks’ arrest. He was arraigned before the Centralized Arraignment Part and remanded to the Ontario County Jail. Bail options were set at $1,000 cash, a $2,500 insurance company bond, or a $5,000 partially secured appearance bond.
Cheeks is scheduled to appear in Hopewell Town Court at a later date for further proceedings.
