Newark Fire Department Recognizes Top Responders for January 2025
Captain Josh Washburn, along with Firefighters Juan Ortiz and Joe Lusardi, were honored for their outstanding dedication and service.
The Newark Fire Department kicked off 2025 on a steady note, responding to 45 emergency calls in January following a busy 2024, which saw a total of 597 calls. As part of their monthly tradition, the department has announced the recipients of its Top Responder awards, recognizing volunteers who demonstrated outstanding commitment during the past month.
Captain Josh Washburn earned the distinction of Top Responding Line Officer, having responded to 25 calls in January. In the firefighter category, there was a tie for the Top Responder award, with Juan Ortiz and newcomer Joe Lusardi each answering 14 calls.
The Fire Department expressed gratitude to all its members for their dedication, highlighting the vital role volunteers play in the department’s operations.
The Newark Fire Department is a 100% volunteer organization, averaging around 500 calls annually. The department provides fire and rescue services to the Village of Newark and operates a dedicated fire prevention team that engages with local schools and the broader community.
