New York State Police Issue Over 11,500 Tickets During St. Patrick’s Day Enforcement
State Troopers arrested 239 individuals for driving while intoxicated (DWI) and investigated 563 crashes.
The New York State Police issued 11,582 tickets as part of a statewide enforcement effort during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday, the agency announced.
The initiative ran from Friday, March 14, through Monday, March 17, 2025, extending one day longer than the previous year’s campaign. Funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, the operation involved sobriety checkpoints, increased patrols targeting impaired drivers, and efforts to curb underage drinking and illegal alcohol sales.
State Troopers arrested 239 individuals for driving while intoxicated (DWI) and investigated 563 crashes. No fatalities were reported. In addition to cracking down on impaired driving, officers issued tickets for various traffic violations, including:
Speeding: 3,680 citations
Distracted driving: 337 citations
Seatbelt violations: 423 citations
Move Over Law violations: 161 citations
Compared to last year’s enforcement effort, which resulted in 8,662 tickets and 217 DWI arrests, this year's operation saw a notable increase in traffic citations and impaired driving arrests.
A breakdown of the enforcement data by troop shows that the highest number of DWI arrests occurred in the Western Hudson Valley region (46 arrests), while the New York State Thruway saw the most speeding violations (861 tickets). New York City recorded the fewest DWI arrests (3).
Law enforcement officials emphasized the importance of these initiatives in promoting roadway safety. Authorities encourage drivers to remain vigilant, avoid impaired driving, and adhere to traffic laws to help reduce crashes and injuries on New York’s roads.
