The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has announced the annual statewide burn ban, prohibiting residential brush burning from March 16 through May 14, 2025. The restriction, which has been in place for several years, aims to reduce the risk of wildfires during the spring season, when dry conditions and high winds increase the likelihood of uncontrolled fires.
While most types of residential burning are prohibited, certain exceptions remain. Small cooking fires, small campfires, and some ceremonial fires are still permitted under the ban. Residents are advised to follow all safety guidelines and check with local authorities for any additional restrictions that may apply.
Violations of the burn ban can result in fines and other penalties. State officials encourage the public to report any illegal burning activity to their local fire department or the DEC.
For more information on the burn ban and fire safety regulations, residents can visit the DEC website or contact local officials.
