Registration is now open for the upcoming New York Safe Boating Course, set to take place on Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Red Creek Fire Department, 7024 Main St., Red Creek, NY. The course provides essential training for boaters, focusing on safe and responsible boating practices.
The eight-hour program is designed for individuals aged 10 and older and covers topics such as navigation rules, required safety equipment, and best practices for various boating activities. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a safe boating certificate.
While there is no fee for students under 18, individuals 18 and older must pay a $10 fee to New York State Parks for a permanent boating safety certificate, in addition to any course fees set by the instructor.
Attendees are required to bring two pens and a lunch. Participants are also reminded not to block fire truck access when parking at the venue.
Currently, 18 of the 30 available seats remain open. Those who have registered but are unable to attend are asked to cancel before Friday, April 18, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. CDT, to allow space for waitlisted individuals.
The course is organized by Steven M. Mitchell and is part of New York’s effort to promote safer boating practices.
