New Book Challenges Traditional Christian Views on Jesus’ Nature
A newly released book by psychiatrist and theologian Andrei Efremov is stirring theological discussion by questioning long-held Christian beliefs about the nature of Jesus. Titled Jesus is Only God, Not a Man – Rethinking the Nature of Jesus: How Mainstream Oneness Still Falls Short of Pure Monotheism, the book presents a departure from both Trinitarian doctrine and traditional Oneness theology.
Efremov’s central argument is that Jesus is entirely and exclusively God, manifested in human form without possessing a separate human nature. The book critiques what the author sees as theological distortions rooted in ancient church traditions and philosophical influences, particularly those introduced through Greek thought and early church councils.
Rejecting the doctrine of the Trinity and the widely accepted “two-nature” concept of Christ—where Jesus is understood to be both fully God and fully man—Efremov also offers a critique of mainstream Oneness theology for preserving what he views as an artificial division between the divine and human in Jesus.
Drawing on his background in psychiatry, Efremov links these theological frameworks to cognitive biases, arguing that human tendencies toward dualistic thinking have shaped complex doctrines that stray from biblical monotheism. He advocates for a return to what he describes as a simpler, scriptural understanding of God as absolutely one.
The book is positioned as a call for renewed theological conversation, both within Christianity and among other monotheistic traditions. Efremov encourages readers to revisit foundational doctrines in pursuit of a more direct and unified understanding of God.
