Mexican Citizen Sentenced to Prison for Smuggling Migrants Across Northern U.S. Border
According to court records, he and four others traveled from North Carolina to northern New York on May 15, 2023, to smuggle 16 Mexican nationals across the U.S.-Canada border.
A 27-year-old Mexican citizen has been sentenced to three years in prison for his role in a migrant smuggling operation, federal prosecutors announced Friday.
Pedro Solano-Azamar, who had been living in the United States illegally since 2020, pleaded guilty to conspiring to transport individuals who had unlawfully entered the country. According to court records, he and four others traveled from North Carolina to northern New York on May 15, 2023, to smuggle 16 Mexican nationals across the U.S.-Canada border.
Following his prison sentence, Solano-Azamar will face deportation.
The case was investigated by the United States Border Patrol’s Swanton Sector and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Stitt. U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone III and Border Patrol Chief Agent Robert N. Garcia announced the sentencing.
