Mexican Citizen Sentenced to Prison for Role in Border Smuggling Case
Following his prison term, Montalvo-Grenada will be deported to Mexico by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.
A Mexican citizen has been sentenced to three years in prison for his involvement in a smuggling operation that brought undocumented individuals across the U.S.-Canada border.
Francisco Montalvo-Grenada, 26, was sentenced to 36 months in prison after pleading guilty to his role in a conspiracy to smuggle noncitizens into the United States. His sentencing was announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Daniel Hanlon and Chief Patrol Agent Robert N. Garcia of the U.S. Border Patrol’s Swanton Sector.
Court records indicate that on May 15, 2023, Montalvo-Grenada traveled from North Carolina to northern New York with four co-conspirators. Together, they smuggled 16 Mexican nationals into the U.S. from Canada. Following his prison term, Montalvo-Grenada will be deported to Mexico by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Border Patrol and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Stitt.
