Community members in Marion are coming together to support former Fire Chief Bill Murphy, who stepped down last year after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. A pasta dinner fundraiser, titled "Pasta for a Purpose: Bill’s Battle Against Cancer," is set to take place on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Marion American Legion "Marion Memorial Post 1430."
The event aims to help offset Murphy’s medical expenses while bringing the community together in support. Attendees can enjoy a pasta dinner, including sides, a roll, salad, and dessert, for $20 per person. Meals will be available for both dine-in and takeout.
In addition to the dinner, the fundraiser will feature a gift basket raffle and a 50/50 raffle, giving attendees more opportunities to contribute.
Murphy has been a dedicated member of the Marion Fire Department, and local firefighters, along with other community members, are encouraging residents to attend and show their support.
"Bill has always been there for us, and now it’s our turn to be there for him and his family," the fire department shared in a message to the community.
For those interested in attending, the event offers not only a chance to enjoy a meal but also to help a valued member of the community during a challenging time.
