Major Development Projects on the Agenda: Newark Boards to Review NYSEG Site and Cannabis Retail Proposal
Public invited to weigh in on zoning variances and special use permits at January Planning and Zoning Board meetings.
The Village of Newark is preparing for two important meetings in early January, where the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals will review projects that could influence the area’s development and business environment.
The Planning Board will meet on January 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Village Court Room at the Newark Municipal Building. The agenda includes a site plan review for a New York State Electric & Gas project on Silver Hill Road, which seeks approval for reduced rear yard setbacks from 50 feet to 25 feet and an increased fence height of 8 feet in a residential district.
Another proposal on the table is a special use permit application from Elevated Times, LLC, a cannabis retail business planning to open at 6740-6744 Route 31 East. This application is subject to zoning regulations outlined in Chapter 170, Article XVI of the Village Code and Local Law No. 2 of 2024.
The Zoning Board of Appeals will meet on January 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Village Court Room to follow up on the same projects. The board will focus specifically on the requested variances and zoning compliance for the NYSEG site and the Elevated Times retail business.
Both meetings are open to the public, offering residents an opportunity to voice their opinions on these proposed developments. The discussions will address potential changes to Newark’s residential and commercial landscape, giving the community a chance to weigh in on decisions that could shape the future of the village.
