Macedon to Offer Monthly Defensive Driving Courses in 2025
The cost of the course is $25, and it is open to anyone with a valid New York State driver’s license. Residency in Macedon is not required.
The Town of Macedon will host a series of defensive driving classes throughout 2025, offering drivers an opportunity to improve their skills, reduce insurance costs, and lower points on their driving records.
The classes, part of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Point & Insurance Reduction Program (PIRP), will be led by certified instructors from the Macedon Police Department. Participants who complete the course may be eligible for a reduction of up to four points on their driving record and receive a 10% discount on their auto and motorcycle insurance premiums for three years.
The six-hour course will be held at the Macedon Community Room, located within the Macedon Public Library at 30 West Main Street. Classes in odd-numbered months will take place on a single Saturday, with a break for lunch. In even-numbered months, the course will be divided into two three-hour evening sessions on Monday and Wednesday.

Advance registration is required, and any class with fewer than four participants will be canceled. Refunds will be provided as an account credit for future course dates.
Drivers who complete the course will receive a certificate of completion by mail within 45 days, which must be submitted to their insurance provider within 90 days to apply for the premium reduction.
