Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Welcomes Two New K9s, Releases Social Media Video
After being acquired, Nash and Deputy McGee attended basic K9 training in January 2025 and successfully earned their New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services certification last week.
The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office has bolstered its K9 unit with the addition of two new four-legged deputies, K9s Mitch and Nash. The department introduced the pair in a recently shared social media video, highlighting their roles in enhancing law enforcement operations.
K9 Nash has been partnered with Deputy McGee and is currently assigned to the day patrol shift. Notably, Nash’s name carries historical significance, as he is named in honor of Livingston County’s third sheriff. Nash was purchased in December 2024 with funds raised through the Sheriff’s Foundation and generous donations from the York Animal Hospital. The hospital annually hosts a fundraising event called "Woofstock," with proceeds dedicated to supporting the county’s K9 program. After being acquired, Nash and Deputy McGee attended basic K9 training in January 2025 and successfully earned their New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) certification in Patrol and Tracking on February 21, 2025.
K9 Mitch, the second addition to the unit, will also play a crucial role in law enforcement efforts. While details regarding his specific assignment have yet to be disclosed, he is expected to contribute to patrol operations, search and rescue missions, and overall public safety initiatives.
The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude for the continued community support that makes these additions possible, particularly acknowledging the contributions from the Sheriff’s Foundation and York Animal Hospital. The department emphasized that K9s like Mitch and Nash play a vital role in strengthening public safety, assisting in criminal investigations, and fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and the community.
