A Hornell man was arrested following an altercation at a local motel earlier this week, according to the New York State Police.
Authorities responded to a report of a physical disturbance at the Econo Lodge on Seneca Road North around 9:56 p.m. on March 11. Upon arrival, troopers found multiple individuals outside the building and began an investigation into the incident.
According to police, Zachary D. Smith, 25, of Hornell, allegedly forced his way into another person’s motel room following a dispute over noise levels. Smith is accused of assaulting the occupant and damaging the door frame and threshold during the altercation. The victim sustained multiple injuries.
Smith was taken into custody and processed at the New York State Police barracks in North Hornell. Due to prior felony convictions, he was remanded to the Steuben County Jail.
He faces several charges, including:
Burglary in the second degree (Class C felony)
Assault in the third degree (Class A misdemeanor)
Criminal mischief in the fourth degree (Class A misdemeanor)
The victim was evaluated at the scene by Hornell City Ambulance personnel before being transported to St. James Memorial Hospital for further treatment.
Authorities have not released additional details on the case.
