Historic Charles Bullis Cobblestone House to Host Open House Event Honoring Nettie Bullis
The Charles Bullis Cobblestone House, a historic landmark in Macedon, will open its doors to the public on Sunday, March 23, 2025, for a special event celebrating the 132nd birthday of Nettie Bullis, a notable figure in the home’s history.
The event, hosted by Macedon NY History, will take place from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. at 1727 Canandaigua Road. The current owner, Jeffrey Henley, has agreed to welcome visitors into the home, providing a rare opportunity for the community to explore the 19th-century cobblestone structure.
Built by Charles H. Bullis around 1839, the house is recognized on the National Register of Historic Places and is one of approximately 170 surviving cobblestone buildings in Wayne County. The Bullis family remained stewards of the property for nearly 150 years before it was sold in 1984. The home’s architecture reflects a blend of Federal and Greek Revival styles, and it sits along a historically significant travel route near the Erie Canal.
Nettie Bullis, for whom the open house event is named, was a descendant of the Bullis family and played a role in preserving the family’s legacy. She and her brother Charles retained ownership of the house until their passing in the 1970s. Today, portions of the original Bullis property have been transformed into Bullis Park, a public recreational space in Macedon.
The upcoming event will allow visitors to appreciate the home’s history and architecture while celebrating Nettie Bullis’ contributions to the community. The open house is free and open to the public.
