A Geneva man was arrested earlier this month after a traffic stop in the Village of Weedsport led to the discovery of controlled substances, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Brian Schenck reported that on February 9, at approximately 11:04 p.m., a deputy observed a vehicle without a front New York State license plate and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, identified as 40-year-old Michael R. Costello of Geneva, was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
During the stop, authorities conducted a search of Costello and his vehicle, leading to the discovery of Methylphenidate pills—a Schedule II controlled substance—for which he did not have a prescription. A scale, commonly associated with weighing illegal substances, was also found, officials said.
Costello was taken into custody and transported to the Public Safety Building, where he was processed and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminally using drug paraphernalia in the second degree, both misdemeanors. He was also issued traffic tickets.
Following his processing, Costello was released on appearance tickets and was scheduled to appear in the Village of Weedsport Court on February 24 at 7 p.m.
