Genesee County Woman Arrested on Felony Charges Following Motor Vehicle Crash in Livingston County
Leandra’s Law, enacted in New York State in 2009, makes it a felony to drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol with a child under 16 in the vehicle.
A Genesee County woman was arrested on felony charges following a motor vehicle crash in Livingston County last month, according to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Route 36 and Route 20 on February 10, 2025, around 3 p.m. The driver of the passenger vehicle was identified as 35-year-old Katie Boyce of Oakfield, NY.
During their investigation, deputies suspected Boyce was under the influence of drugs and requested assistance from the STOP-DWI Unit. She was transported by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, where Deputy Hunter Wester conducted a Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs investigation. A blood sample was secured and sent for testing.
According to authorities, lab results received on March 5 indicated that Boyce was under the influence of marijuana and a narcotic analgesic at the time of the crash. Additionally, a 4-year-old child was found to have been a passenger in the vehicle, which led to felony charges under Leandra’s Law.
On March 6, Boyce was arrested and charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law), Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. She was booked at the Livingston County Jail before being arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) before Town of West Sparta Justice Mahany. Boyce was released on her own recognizance, as the charges did not qualify for bail under New York’s Bail Reform Act.
The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office represented Boyce at her arraignment, while the Livingston County District Attorney’s Office was also present.
