Former West Seneca USPS Employee Pleads Guilty to Stealing Mail, Wegmans, Target Gift Cards
A former postal worker has pleaded guilty to stealing mail while employed at the West Seneca Post Office, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York.
Christopher Porter, 37, of Angola, admitted to theft of mail by an officer or employee in U.S. District Court before Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo. The charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
According to prosecutors, Porter, who worked as a city carrier for the United States Postal Service (USPS) from 2021 to May 2022, stole an envelope containing a Wegmans gift card and a Target gift card in October 2021, which he then gave to his wife. Additionally, in March 2022, he was found to have opened and rifled through mail, causing delivery delays.
The case was investigated by the USPS Office of Inspector General, Northeast Area Field Office, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Modafferi.
Porter is scheduled to be sentenced on July 18, 2025.
