Former Avon Police Trainee Pleads Guilty to Federal Charges of Child Pornography Possession, Cyberstalking
A former police trainee associated with the Avon Police Department has pleaded guilty in federal court to possession of child pornography and cyberstalking.
Casey Medina, 33, of Rochester, entered the plea before U.S. District Judge Meredith A. Vacca on Tuesday. The charges carry a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York, a search warrant was executed on Medina’s cell phone on August 22, 2024. Investigators recovered approximately 360 images identified as child pornography, reportedly obtained via a social media platform. At least one image was described as involving a prepubescent child and included violent content.
Federal prosecutors also stated that between May and August 2024, Medina distributed altered images that falsely depicted an individual engaged in explicit conduct. The victim’s face had been digitally superimposed onto pornographic images, which were then shared on public websites and social media.
In addition, investigators allege Medina sent threatening and harassing messages to the victim and recruited others to do the same. The messages reportedly included threats of physical and sexual violence, along with identifying information such as the victim’s hometown and place of employment.
The case was investigated by the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Sentencing is scheduled for August 4, 2025.
