A Florida man has pleaded guilty to perjury in federal court after admitting to providing false testimony during a previous trial, prosecutors announced.
Michael W. Luehrsen, 41, of Miami, entered his guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo. Perjury carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. As part of his plea agreement, Luehrsen has agreed to pay approximately $2 million in restitution and forfeit an additional $2 million in assets, including investments and real estate proceeds.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorneys Charles M. Kruly and Grace Carducci, Luehrsen gave false testimony under oath during a February 2022 jury trial in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York. During that trial, he stated that on July 11, 2014, he was in Boston, Massachusetts, and not in Buffalo on the day an altered prescription form was faxed from his father’s home.
However, evidence from Luehrsen’s cellphone, along with telephone and financial records, confirmed that he was in Buffalo on that date. His location was considered a key factor in the trial, where he was facing charges, including conspiracy to commit health care fraud.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, led by Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia.
Luehrsen is scheduled to be sentenced on June 27, 2025, before Judge Vilardo.
