A residential structure fire on State Route 21 in Hopewell on Tuesday afternoon left a home uninhabitable but resulted in no injuries, according to authorities.
Ontario County Sheriff's deputies, along with multiple fire departments and emergency responders, arrived at 2295 State Route 21 around 1:59 p.m. to find the residence in flames. Fire crews from Hopewell, Canandaigua, Manchester, Shortsville, Clifton Springs, and East Bloomfield worked together to contain and extinguish the fire.
During the response, a section of State Route 21 between Route 488 and County Road 19 was closed from 2:07 p.m. to 3:38 p.m. Fire officials later deemed the scene safe, but local code enforcement determined the home uninhabitable due to extensive fire damage.
The three residents—identified as Gregory E. Cooper, 54, of Canandaigua; Lisa R. Betty, 51, of Bath; and Lawrence J. Comstra, 76, of Canandaigua—were able to exit the home safely without injury.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
