A single-vehicle rollover crash on Thursday afternoon resulted in no reported injuries for a driver and his juvenile passenger, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the scene at the intersection of State Route 21 and Merrick Avenue around 2:15 p.m. and found a Hyundai Tucson resting on its side. The driver, identified as 30-year-old Christopher Nievesrivera of Manchester, was able to exit the vehicle without assistance. A juvenile passenger, reported to be his son, was also uninjured and was helped out of the vehicle by bystanders.
Emergency responders from Finger Lakes Ambulance examined the child at the scene and released him to the father’s care.
Deputies determined that Nievesrivera had been traveling northbound on State Route 21 when he allegedly moved from his lane unsafely and struck a utility pole owned by RG&E, causing the vehicle to overturn. He was administered standard field sobriety tests, which reportedly showed no signs of impairment.
Nievesrivera was issued multiple citations, including failure to maintain lane, not wearing a seatbelt, and failure to use an appropriate child restraint system in the vehicle.
Manchester Fire Department assisted with traffic control, and JC Auto removed the vehicle from the scene.
