A Breesport man has been arrested in connection with a burglary investigation dating back to 2023, according to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say 49-year-old Michael L. Deragon was taken into custody on February 27, 2025, after a deputy encountered him in the Dollar General parking lot in the Hamlet of Breesport. The deputy, aware of pending charges against Deragon, initiated an interview that led to his arrest.
The charges stem from a March 2023 burglary on Mallory Hill Road in the Town of Veteran, an incident that had already resulted in the arrests of two other individuals: Shawn Mitstifer, of East Sullivanville, and Kyle Menio, of Van Etten. The Sheriff's Office reported that the investigation into the case led to the recovery of dozens of stolen firearms.
Deragon has been charged with burglary in the third degree, a Class D felony. Following his arrest, he was arraigned in Horseheads Town Court and was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the case. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the department.
