Deadline Approaching for Wayne County Correction Officer Position
The exam does not include a traditional written test but instead consists of an online questionnaire that evaluates a candidate’s training and experience.
The deadline to apply for the recently announced correction officer position for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is approaching. The exam, a Training and Experience (T&E) assessment, is open to candidates residing in Wayne, Ontario, Monroe, Seneca, or Cayuga counties. Applicants must have been residents of one of these counties for at least one month prior to the exam and must reside in Wayne County at the time of appointment.
The position offers an annual salary of $56,814. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and hold a valid New York State driver’s license at the time of appointment. Additionally, applicants must meet physical and medical standards and successfully complete the required training prescribed by the New York State Commission of Corrections.
The exam does not include a traditional written test but instead consists of an online questionnaire that evaluates a candidate’s training and experience. The online questionnaire is available until February 28, 2025 and must be completed on or before this date. Candidates who fail to submit their responses will receive the minimum qualifying score of 70.
Successful candidates will also be required to pass a physical fitness test, which includes an obstacle course, a door lock/unlock test, and a body transport test. If a candidate fails the physical fitness portion, they will be allowed up to three attempts to pass, with at least a 30-day waiting period before the final retest.
Applicants must be at least 20 years old at the time of the exam and be U.S. citizens. Background checks will be conducted, including reviews of education, employment history, and criminal records. Any prior felony conviction will disqualify a candidate, and certain misdemeanor convictions may also impact eligibility.
Candidates applying for multiple correctional officer examinations across different jurisdictions must submit separate applications and complete the required T&E questionnaire for each. Those who have applied for multiple exams scheduled on the same date must notify each agency and submit a cross-filing form at least two weeks in advance.
Application materials can be obtained from the Wayne County Human Resources Office or via the county’s official website.
