Residents of Cortland County will have the opportunity to safely dispose of unused or expired medications during the upcoming Cortland County Drug Takeback event, scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2025.
The event is being organized in collaboration with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, Cortlandville Fire Department, Cincinnatus Fire Department, Marathon Fire Department, and the Marathon Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps (MAVAC).
Three drop-off locations will be available for community members to discard medications:
Cortlandville Fire Department (999 State Route 13) – Open 9 a.m. to noon
Cincinnatus Fire Department (5722 Telephone Road Extension) – Open 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Marathon Village Green/High School (1 East Main Street) – Open 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Organizers emphasize that the takeback event provides a safe and environmentally friendly way to dispose of medications, helping to prevent misuse and protect local water sources. However, liquid medications and sharps (such as needles and EpiPens) will not be accepted at the collection sites.
Community members can look for informational fliers around the county and stay updated via the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office website, social media pages, or the Sheriff’s Office mobile app.
