A devastating fire in the early hours of Thursday morning reduced a home on Jefferson Street to ruins, prompting a multi-agency response and leaving a local couple without their belongings.
Fire crews from Wolcott, Rose, Savannah, and Alton—along with additional support agencies—were called to battle the massive blaze. Despite their efforts, the home was completely destroyed. Authorities have not yet released further details on the cause of the fire.
The homeowners, Jake and Shari Crisafulli, are now facing an unimaginable loss. According to friends and family, Jake had been asleep on the couch when he was suddenly awakened by the sound of a smoke alarm. He barely had time to escape as flames quickly overtook the house. Shari was out of town visiting her mother at the time, and their dog also made it out safely.
While the couple had insurance, they are left with nothing in the immediate aftermath of the disaster. To help them recover, loved ones have launched a GoFundMe campaign, urging the community to come together and assist them through this challenging time.
"Jake and Shari are two of the most hardworking, kindhearted people you could ever meet," the fundraiser description reads. "They've always given to others—now it's our turn to give back to them."
The donations will go toward essentials like clothing, food, and temporary housing as they begin the process of rebuilding their lives. Community members are encouraged to contribute or share the fundraiser to help provide immediate relief.
