Clifton Springs Firefighter Arrested for Alleged Arson

A Clifton Springs firefighter has been arrested in connection with a fire that was intentionally set in a dumpster behind an apartment complex, according to law enforcement officials.
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to a fire complaint at the Foster Block Apartments on Crane Street on March 18, 2025, at approximately 3:49 p.m. Firefighters from the Clifton Springs Fire Department quickly extinguished the blaze. Following the response, an investigation determined that the fire had been deliberately started.
Authorities arrested 19-year-old Joshua J. Musgrove of Clifton Springs, charging him with arson in the fifth degree, a Class A misdemeanor. Musgrove, who is a firefighter with the Clifton Springs Fire Department, was issued an appearance ticket for Manchester Town Court and released.
In a statement, the Clifton Springs Fire Department confirmed that Musgrove has been suspended and will be terminated if convicted. Sheriff David J. Cirencione acknowledged the concerning nature of the arrest but stressed that the majority of firefighters serve their communities with dedication and integrity.
The Clifton Springs Fire Department assisted in the investigation, and officials stated they will not be providing additional comments at this time.
