A 46-year-old Canandaigua man was arrested Saturday night on felony driving while intoxicated charges following a police response to a complaint on State Routes 5 and 20.
According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Kenneth D. Stellwegen was taken into custody around 10 p.m. on March 31 after deputies responded to a report of a possibly sick or intoxicated driver. During the investigation, authorities said Stellwegen showed signs of impairment and failed a standardized field sobriety test.
Stellwegen, who resides on Phoenix Street in Canandaigua, was arrested without incident. Deputies said he has a prior conviction for driving while intoxicated in 2015, which elevates the current charge to a felony under New York State law.
Following his arrest, Stellwegen was transported to the Ontario County Jail, where he was held for pre-arraignment detention. He was issued citations and is expected to appear in Canandaigua Town Court at a later date.
