Buffalo Man Arrested Following Child Exploitation Investigation
A Buffalo man was arrested Wednesday following an investigation into alleged online child exploitation, according to New York State Police.
Lamarr A. Smith, 45, was taken into custody by investigators from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation at State Police Clarence, with assistance from the Troop A Computer Crimes Unit. He faces multiple charges, including promoting a sexual performance by a child, possessing a sexual performance by a child, tampering with evidence, resisting arrest, and obstruction of governmental administration.
Authorities say the arrest followed an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) investigation conducted in the city of Buffalo. Investigators allege that Smith was in possession of child sexual abuse material and had been sharing it online. He also allegedly attempted to destroy evidence and resisted officers during his arrest.
Smith was arraigned in Buffalo City Court.
The ICAC Task Force is a nationwide initiative aimed at combating the online exploitation of children. It supports state and local law enforcement efforts to identify individuals engaged in the distribution of child sexual abuse material or those attempting to lure minors for sexual purposes.
Further details about the investigation have not been released.
